Frequently Asked Questions
General
Do I need to haul the boat out of the water?
How does a dirty hull impacts on fuel consumption?
A dirty hull increases fuel consumption and its hydrodynamic performance on the water. Light fouling (slime and small organisms) may add 5-10% of fuel consumption. Moderate fouling (barnacles and algae) can increase consumption by 15-25%. Severe fouling (thick barnacle coverage) can lead to 30-40% or more in additional fuel burn.
How often do I need hull cleaning?
For boats kept in Florida’s warm and nutrient-rich saltwater, hull cleaning is typically needed every month. We have also seen boats that need hull cleaning every 2 months, but that will depend on how frequent is the boat being used and the antifouling paint quality.

Yes, always.
Where does Miami Marine operate?
We operate in the counties of Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Collier, Lee and The Florida Keys.
What type of cleaning do we perform?
Cleaning is always physical and not chemical, ensuring your hull or structure will not suffer any permanent damage. We use manual tools which involve scrapping and cavitation power washing for irregular surfaces or excess of organic growth.
What does bottom/hull cleaning involve?
For bottom/hull cleaning, we remove visible organic growth from the hull, propellers, keels, shafts, running gear, trim tabs, water line, intakes & outlets and everything else where barnacles, clams and oysters can stick.
Quality
How do we ensure our service was properly performed?
We provide underwater documentation and a written report of the performed work.
Do you perform any inspection in advance?
Yes, we do an inspection with underwater documentation, free of charge, previous to every service we perform, even if the vessel doesn't need any service at all.
Billing
Will be there additional fees?
No. Not even transportation or payment fees.
Will prices vary depending on hull condition or time involved?
No, even if the job takes us more time or requires more use of machinery due to excess of organic growth, we will keep prices same as initially quoted.
Do prices include tax?
Services in Florida are generally not subject to sales tax, as well as ours. You may need to pay sales tax if you purchase anodes from us, which are physical goods.
Safety
Do we perform safety procedures?
Yes, we inform the marina and the vessel owner before a service is made. We also make sure warning signs are displayed on the dock next to the vessel, when a diver is on the water.
Are our divers certified?
Yes, our divers are PADI certified and have proper training to perform our services. They also have a FWC-approved boater safety course.
Are we insured?
Yes, we hold a general liability insurance policy with Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, to make sure your vessel or marina is covered during our operations. We can always add and name the marina or vessel as a certificate holder. To do so, just reach out to us after a service is booked.
